VP calls for improved morality in organization units


Vice-President Xi Jinping has urged officials with the country's organization departments to adhere to the nature of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and polish their behaviors and values to set an example for others.

Xi, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks Wednesday while meeting with attendees of a concluding meeting for a campaign to improve morality in the country's organization system.

The campaign, dubbed "Adhere to the Party Nature, Value Morality and Set an Example," was raised at the CPC's 17th National Congress for all Party members, especially officials and leaders.

Draft law stresses govt role in environmental protection


Officials will be subject to administrative punishment if they fabricate environmental statistics or refuse to release information that should be made public.

The draft law, which was presented for discussion by deputies of the National People's Congress Standing Committee on Monday, stressed the government's role in environmental protection, as China faces increasing environmental incidents and protests.

Wang Guangtao, director of the NPC Environment Protection and Resources Conservation Committee, said the main purpose of the amendment is to reinforce the responsibility of governments and enterprises.

Congress: Wider representation


Although the exact date of the has yet to be announced, the names of the 2,270 delegates who will vote in the quinquennial leadership election were announced earlier this month.

Before the election, the CPC Central Committee determined that the number of candidates in the elections should be at least 15 percent more than the number of delegates, and the ratio of delegates from the grassroots, especially workers, should be increased.

The delegates were elected in 40 electoral units across the country. The average age of the delegates is 52, while 64.8 percent of the delegates are under 55. More than 93 percent of the delegates have college degrees or above.

Leader stresses fair distribution of low-income homes


Vice-Premier Li Keqiang has called for local authorities to fairly distribute low-income housing units to those needy families in a transparent way, adding that tightening measures for the country's property market will remain in place.

Li's remarks came during an inspection tour of low-income housing communities in Beijing on Tuesday.

The vice premier said the country's goal of building low-income housing units this year must be fulfilled in time in order to benefit middle- and low-income households.

While ensuring the quantity and quality of low-income housing, the government should also emphasize fair distribution, Li said.

China to set up new five-year anti-corruption plan


China will implement a five-year plan for eliminating corruption after the upcoming national congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), top official He Guoqiang said on Tuesday.
