GUANGZHOU - Premier Wen Jiabao has stressed the need to keep up efforts to fight inflation, while maintaining rapid and stable economic growth. Wen Jiabao was speaking during an inspection tour of Guangdong Province in southern China.
During his weekend tour, Premier Wen Jiabao inspected some enterprises in Guangzhou, Dongguan and Shenzhen. He encouraged them to tackle their present difficulties and challenges. He also listened to an economic report from provincial officials.
Wen Jiabao stressed that overall economic development in Guangdong is no less than the what's being seen across the country. He noted that overseas market demand has shrunk due to the slowdown of the world economy. And that his has put pressure on small and medium-sized enterprises along the Pearl River Delta.
Wen Jiabao said the fundamental way to solve these problems is to enhance the opening up policy with a focus on international competition and to boost scientific development.
In addition, Wen Jiabao asked companies in Guangdong to optimize industrial structures to make the province one of the world's leading manufacturing centers and the regional center of the modern service industry. He also called for stronger cooperation with the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions.
