China pledges to promote pre-school education
Statistics show there are 20 million early-age children in China who don't have access to pre-school education. The Ministry of Education held a press conference on Thursday, pledging to enhance the accessibility and affordability of pre-school education.
Zheng Fuzhi, an official within China's top education authority told the conference a pilot program to promote pre-school education in rural areas is going to be launched in ten provinces. A total of five hundred million yuan will be made available for the program. He also denies the possibility of eliminating pre-school education fees by compulsory means. The government, however, encourages areas with abundant financial resources to provide early childhood education free of charge.
